Higher Education Program ( HEP )

SAW Foundation Reopened the HEP program in 2022 in response to the educational crisis following Myanmar’s 2021 military coup, the Higher Education Program (HEP) supports vulnerable and conflict-affected youth along the Thai–Myanmar border whose studies were disrupted by displacement and insecurity. Many students are children of political prisoners, activists, CDM members, and families from refugee and IDP camps.

Since 2022, 150 students have enrolled, 80 have passed the GED , and 33 students are now studying both universities in Thailand and international online universities . In the 2025–2026 academic year, 101 students (45 male, 56 female) enrolled the program, with approximately 80 living in the Temporary Protection Program shelter. Through GED preparation, language training (Japanese, Thai, and Cambridge English), software engineering courses, and leadership training , HEP empowers young people to rebuild the academic pathways and become valued person of their communities.
